Resident Evil 5 has been released as one of the first entries in the series that was made without any possible conection from the creator and sometimes producer of the series, Shinji Mikami.

Jun Takeuchi did the work of Shinji Mikami, along with Masachika Kawata to create this game.
But did they really innovate the game?
Or they just made a Resident Evil 4 in disguise with HD?
Several fans have felt the series have departed too much from what they were in previous installments, some say RE 4 created this change and that it was all Mikami's fault that future games turned out this way, but at least Mikami did an awesome work with RE 4.
He created all-new enemies, bosses and a post-Umbrella storyline, something not seen until this very game and a particular camera and gameplay style that created a revolution in the game industry, leading to games like Gears Of War and Dead Space along with others that follow the same gameplay called "Over-The-Shoulder", all of this, leading to the greatest franchise success since Resident Evil 2.
While Shinji Mikami has been envolved in every Resident Evil game until Resident Evil 4, he pursued a different way from Capcom, rumors and news about this can be found online if you want further information, as for now I want to focus on the RE 4-RE 5 change.
RE 5 was supposed to bring back characters and story out of previous REs, mostly the original.
After his release, many people complained about the lame ending, lack of originality, extremely cliché and somewhat obvious storyline (also, people has said that there are some facts copied from other games, like the Wesker Children quote compared to Metal Gear Solid), same game basis as RE 4, and others (like racist comments about the setting of the game).
We can all see how the game turned out, and if you haven't, please take a brief time of your life to rate the game yourself.
Enemies in RE 5 can be compared to previous enemies of the series, or perhaps another series. I will try to give examples of this comparison:
1) RE 4 Ganado - RE 5 Majini:

This comparison is quite obvious, they are both people that used to be peaceful but got infected by parasites called "Las Plagas" against their own will, they can communicate between each other, use weapons, intelligence prevails, rutinary lives like they used to have, controled by a master plaga, retain the capabilities of a normal human being, attack any intruder at sight. Less durable than the well known zombie, but effective as a soldier.
This is the first enemy out of another game.
2) RE 4 Colmillos - RE 5 Adjule:

The dog-like creatures from the games, these creatures tend to attack in a pack, by jumping, pin, devouring or attacking with their Plaga parasite.
Colmillos are wolves or dogs, and Adjules are hyenas or fierce dogs.
Another enemy out of RE 4, and not to mention the fact that zombie hyenas were seen in Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 during the Wild Things scenario.
3) RE 4 El Gigante - RE 5 Ndesu:

Another obvious comparison, they're both creations of Las Plagas and attack in almost the same way, grabbing trees, throwing big rocks, trying to stomp you, grab you.
They are both killed in the same way, by eliminating the Plaga that appears in the back of these creatures.
4) RE 4 J.J. - RE 5 Gatling Gun Majini:

Plaga infected human with the capability of firing a gatling gun...
Another one out of RE 4, they look almost the same, unless for the fact the one from RE 5 uses an ammo container in his back. They attack the same way, either by firing at you or swinging their Gatling Guns when you are near them.
Shooting them in the head is the best to stun them for a while.
5) RE 2 Licker - RE 5 Licker Beta:

Worth mention it, the enemy Capcom promised that would appear in RE 5 out of the previous RE games.
The Licker had it's name for their peculiar long tongue, they have sharp long claws, crawl and can climb walls, they can also jump at you and attack with their claws to cut your throat.
One memorable enemy.
6) RE Chimeras/RE 4 Novistadors - RE 5 Reapers:

All these 3 enemies have resemblances between them, their particular way to walk or crawl, their attacks and their highly look alike.
7) RE 4 Dr. Salvador - RE 5 Chainsaw Majini:

Yet another enemy out of RE 4, they are quite known for wielding their chainsaw to attempt to cut the characters head, they tend to run and swing their chainsaws.
RE Outbreak File #2 Albert Lester (Axe Man) - RE 5 Executioner

I have to say this is the comparison that amazes me the most.
These two enemies look a like A LOT, they both wield axes and have something covering their heads, even though the Executioner is some kind of butcher.
9) RE 4 Jack Krauser - RE 5 Albert Wesker

While these 2 might not look a like, they are both blonde! (Haha, jk), the huge arm of Krauser resembles that of Wesker's right arm, and if it weren't by the Uroboros tentacles, they would look almost the same, as they both were shirtless (Wesker was before being accepted by Uroboros)
10) RE Zero Leech Man - RE 5 Uroboros Bosses

The tentacles of the Uroboros enemies tend to look like a Leech, and the ability to expand their limbs make them more alike, also the Leech Zombie from Resident Evil Outbreak has big reemblence to the Uroboros bosses, also for the fact that they're both weak to fire (as well for the Leech Man from RE0)
11) RE 4 Osmound Saddler - RE 5 U-8

These 2 bosses have perhaps some of the same weaknesses, their legs have exposed parts that make them fall, their bodies have a hard shell, and their only true weakness is in their head, either the eye (Saddler) or the exposed tissue of U-8. The biggest resemblence is their body structurure.
12) RE 4 Del Lago - RE 5 Ricardo Irving

Stop copying RE 4 please XD
Del Lago and Irving are both sea monsters that attack you while on a boat, one has spikes and the other is like a salamander, they both sprout something out of their mouth, the only difference might be Irving's tentacles and weaknesses.
Coincidences?
RE 5 had a lot of enemy coincidences out of other RE games, and not to mention the storyline resemblences to other games.
Shinji Mikami's words of "I won't play RE 5" were perhaps some words of frustration, seeing how his creation fell into the hands of other people that completely changed the franchise.
After this...
Resident Evil with or without Shinji Mikami?

Never noticed a lot of this but I can definitely see it now. That just makes it so much more disappointing, heh.
but yeah they were pretty blatant with their over all unoriginality weren't they.
Though to be honest I can live with the unoriginality really. There are only so many way to make a monster, even the main series had a tendency to reuse things.
But it's just to over all shamelessness of abandoning the Survival Horror genre in favor of becoming an action shooter (and a average one at best to boot. seriously stationary only shooting combined with a dumb ai partner and piss poor inventory system and diffaculty do not make a good shooter) I was honestly even willing to accept the change to over the shoulder shooting in 4 because 4 still held some form of survival horror, (5 is jsut enter room kill all badies move on)
THen their was the story. What was supposed to be the ultimate conclusion was a poor use of characters and incrediably anti climactic. Jill was regualated to a damsel in distress (who admitly could kick your face off but still) and Wesker was all of a sudden a villain not even worthy of facing the SUper Freinds (I mean the SF versions of the characters not the characters themselves..that would be OUTRAGEOUS)
I think we jsut need to get Mikami back simply for no other reason than it's his creation and he knows the best way to handle everything. If nothing else keep the guy on as a consultant or something
just enemies but items as well. how many times have we seen that red
valve handle? how many times have you turned a crank? those wolf and eagle medallions? come on now, also enemies. Mr.
X appeared in RE2 and then bam we have Nemesis in RE3, Hunters have
been in RE1, 3 and CVX as well as some spinoffs, tyrants have been in
almost every single game. the zombie dogs ,the crows, not to menion
zombies themselves. come on people i cant be the only one who noticed this. why are so many people claiming RE5 just ripped RE4. all the games have reused alot of aspects, its all part of connecting the universe together.also it was
logical for plagas to be there because theyre a pretty efficient way to
start an army that can be easily controlled which is what wesker needed at the time. youre all entitled to your
opinions but at least look at the facts.
I'm aware past RE used to have some of the same enemies over and over, we know both zombies and Cerberus are the most common enemies, they appear in every other RE game.
What I tried to say was that the fact RE started copying other games in storyline is what bothers me the most, Shinji did something that wasn't expected with RE 4, and they ended up in a great success.
While RE 5 fell into the comercial market.
Unfortunatly the same can be said for Devil May Cry.
I'm not sure he's as hands on in making games anymore is he?
Of course, Mikami hasn't made anything that great at Platimun Games since they started either. It's almost like neither Capcom nor Mikami-san can make anything worthwhile alone; they need each other.
